Two-handed axes are axes which require two hands and like all two-handed melee weapon, this weapon has a reach of 2 ft as well. It can inflict 1d10 points of slashing, it has a speed factor of 9 and it weighs 10. This weapon can only be wielded by warrior classes. This item appears in Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II.

Compared to the standard two-handed sword, it means that this weapon has slightly better speed factor, and thus attack rate and it weighs a lot less, and the same amount of classes can wield this weapon. Also, the strength requirement of this type of weapon, if it's actually applied, is only 10 compared to 14 of the sword. If the weapon proficiency types are also compared of these weapons, the axe and the great sword proficiency have an 1 one-handed and 1 two-handed weapon, but the axe proficiency has a throwing weapon, which the sword proficiency lacks.

Although all the information above points points out that picking the axe proficiency and this weapon type is better than the great swords proficiency and two-handed swords, one should look at the array of weapons of both proficiency and the unique weapon each has to offer.

This mighty weapon consists of a haft several feet long, topped with a heavy blade. The axe may be double-bitted, with blades on both sides of the haft, or it may only have a single blade. It is an unwieldy weapon, but a skilled warrior can strike blows of tremendous strength with it.
